Conferences are a great way to discover fresh ideas, learn helpful tips and grow your network. But with the time and financial investment that goes into attending a conference, it is important to be clear about your objectives so you’re prepared to get the most out of your experience. I asked five of my colleagues to share their best preparation tips.
1. Marg Hachey, Managing Director of GroYourBiz.com contributes one of her famous “Margisms”, “90% of the presentation happens before you get on stage.”
2. Deborah Campbell, President of Q&C shared, “Features tell, benefits sell – focus your story on the benefits relevant to the person you are speaking to!”
3. Kim Reid, President of Cobblestone Kitchens offers, “Set meetings in advance to be sure to connect with the important people you want to see.”
4. Jennifer Kelly, Owner of New Initiatives Marketing, says, “Decide which talks you’ll attend, then have a second choice in case the room is too full or there is a last minute cancellation.”
5. Hilary Robinson, Owner of Polished Professionals blogs, “Investigate who else is going to be there and connect with them on social media.”
My personal tip? Fortune is in the follow-up, so be sure to take notes and then contact the qualified people you meet.
Do you have your own conference tips? I’d love to hear them!
