What is YOUR Zone of Genius?

Aristotle once said, “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.”

With most new businesses lasting only five years, looking back at my three+ decade journey of visioning, navigating and growing my business, I realize how true Aristotle’s message is. Knowing yourself, being authentic, and really owning every niche you were born to be in is the key to running a successful and long-standing business... and living a fulfilling life.

Look at your origin story – Born and raised on Lake Nipissing, in northern Ontario, every summer we enjoyed the beach and water activities. We had heaps of snow to ski, slide and relish in winter, plus a skating rink. It was a four-season playground.

Look at your environment – My environment connected me to nature, with a sense of expansiveness. Gazing out the window to the lake, established a desire for a sense of space through my life. No wonder I love views from high places, hello CN Tower, Grand Canyon, Empire State Building, London Eye, Eiffel Tower, not to mention hot air ballooning, ziplining and the window seat for air travel. Being exposed to new ideas and experiences brought the gift of growth and enrichment.

Look at your influences – My father and grandfather were local business owners. One sold to retail stores and one served institutional customers. The conversations around the daily dinner table about what happened in both my father’s and grandfather’s businesses taught me many practical lessons.
